Each IIM follows different selection parameters for calling candidates either for the interview round or for giving final admission. In our “Selection Criteria” series of articles, we try to de-mystify the process and bring awareness among the candidates so that they can target specific B-Schools instead of applying to every one. In this article, we try to understand the IIM Bangalore selection criteria for its flagship programme, PGP in management.
Selection Criteria of IIM Bangalore
Selection for admission to Post Graduate Programme in Management of IIM Bangalore consists of 3 stages.
Abbreviations: (CAT – Common Admission Test, AWT – Written Test called as Note Writing, PI – Personal Interview)
Stage-I (Appearing for CAT)
In Stage I, candidates have to apply online for CAT and appear for the exam. In this stage, IIMs gather all the requisite information from the candidates related to past academics, work experience, details of various degrees etc. Once the candidate appears for CAT then stage – II starts.
Stage-II (Selection for PI Round) for Normal Candidates
In Stage-II, IIM Bangalore apply various criteria to select and call the candidates for PI round.
1st Criteria for Stage-II selection:

2nd Criteria for Stage-II selection:
Candidates have to secure top 10 percentile marks in their respective boards for 10th and 12th examination. IIM B uses its previous 2 years students database to determine top 10 percentile marks. So candidates have to secure top 10 percentile marks in their respective board examinations to be eligible for getting an interview call from IIM B.
3rd Criteria for Stage-II selection:
Based on the area of study during degree course, graduation score get adjusted and again a candidate has to be in top percentile to get an interview call.
Once all the above 3 criteria are met, then following weights were given to different parameters and a score is calculated for interview purpose only. Candidates will be called in the descending order of Score. Candidates with professional course like CA/CS/ICWA will be given additional 5 points whereas people with a maximum work experience of 3 years would be given 5 additional points.

Top 10 performers in CAT 2016, candidates with Commerce, Arts and Science background and professional courses will be called separately. However, overall selection criteria for these candidates also remain same just like normal candidates. These candidates will be given a preference only for getting an interview call.
