IIM Indore, over the years, started focussing more on academics than CAT score. The weightage given to past academics at different stages of admission process is extremely high. In this article, we try to understand IIM Indore selection criteria.
Selection Criteria of IIM Indore
The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Differently Abled (DA) or Persons with Disabilities (PWD) category, this is relaxed to 45%). A candidate appearing for the final year examinations is also eligible.
Selection for admission to Post Graduate Programme in Management of IIM Indore consists of 3 stages.
(CAT: Common Admission Test, WAT: Written Ability Test and PI: Personal Interview)
Stage-I (Applying and Writing CAT)
In Stage I, candidates have to apply online for CAT and apply for IIM Indore in CAT application itself. In this stage, IIMs gather all the requisite information from the candidates related to past academics, work experience, details of various degrees etc. Once the candidate appears for CAT, then stage – II starts.
Stage-II (Selection for PI Round)
In Stage-II, IIM Indore apply various criteria to select and call the candidates for WAT/PI round.

Candidates have to clear the following section-wise cutoffs as well as overall cutoff (this is based on admission process for the batch 2016-18):
2nd Criteria for Stage-II selection:
The candidates satisfying the requirements mentioned in Stage 1 would only be considered for 2nd stage of shortlisting for WAT and PI. Sufficient number of candidates for WAT and PI for each category (General, NC-OBC, SC, ST and DA) would be shortlisted using the merit list generated based on Composite Score (CS) as mentioned in the following Table 2.
All the Z(Min) and Z(Max) are calculated based on normalization process across each academic category and across different universities. IIM Indore relies entirely on previous year student databases for this.
From the above table, it is apparent that IIM Indore gives a total weightage of 76% (at Stage-II) for past academics for selecting candidates for WAT/PI round. CAT score was given only a weightage 21% and gender diversity 3%.
Stage-III (Final Selection)
