IIM Kashipur had given greater importance to CAT score and less weightage to past academics in 2015. It used CAT scores for admission to its flagship programme, Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management. In this article, we will explore IIM Kashipur Selection Criteria.
Selection Criteria of IIM Kashipur
IIM Kashipur followed a 3 stage process for selecting candidates to its PG Programme in Management.
(CAT: Common Admission Test, WAT: Written Ability Test and PI: Personal Interview)
Stage-I (Applying and Writing CAT)
In Stage I, candidates have to apply online for CAT and appear for the exam. In this stage, IIMs gather all the requisite information from the candidates related to past academics, work experience, details of various degrees etc. Once the candidate appears for CAT, then stage – II starts.
Stage-II (Selection for WAT/PI Round)
In Stage-II, IIM Kashipur applied various criteria to select and call the candidates for WAT/PI round.
1st Criteria for Stage-II selection:

IIM Kashipur uses the following comprehensive evaluation parameters for calling students for WAT/PI round.
A maximum of 60 Marks were awarded to students shortlisted based on above table. A merit list was drawn and students were called in descending order. Let us understand each parameter in-depth as under:
A maximum of 42 (or 70% weightage during interview stage) marks were awarded under this. Students score was divided with the highest score obtained by topper in CAT and multiplied with 42 to get the final marks.
10th and 12th Marks
A maximum of 1 mark each was awarded to candidates for 10th and 12th marks. Candidate’s marks were converted to fractions and final marks were awarded. For example, if someone got a 70% in 10th then it would be converted to 0.70 marks for evaluation by IIM Kashipur.
Graduation Marks were given a weightage of 3 marks and following marks were awarded based on graduation percentage:
A maximum of 3 marks were awarded based on the following classification:
- Freshers – 0 Marks,
- (0-12 months) work experience – 1 mark,
- (Greater than 12 months-24 months) work experience – 2 marks,
- (Greater than 24 months -36 months) work experience – 3 marks
Diversity Factor – Academic Background and Gender
Students with Arts/Commerce/Professional Course/Medicine and other non-Engineering subjects were given extra marks of 4 and girls get extra 5 marks.
Stage-III (Final Selection)
Candidates who were selected based on above parameters were further tested on Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview. In WAT, a topic was given and candidates were asked to pen their thoughts in 15 minutes. In personal interviews, candidates were further evaluated based on their academics, work experience, personal and professional achievements. The Final weightage given for admission to PGP in IIM Kashipur was as under:
Where as, Shortlist Total was the one used in Stage-II for shortlisting candidates for WAT/PI Round.
