Stage-I (Applying and Writing CAT)
In Stage I, candidates have to apply online for CAT and appear for the exam. In this stage, IIMs gather all the requisite information from the candidates related to past academics, work experience, details of various degrees etc. Once the candidate appears for CAT, then stage – II starts.

2nd Criteria for Stage-II selection:
Candidates have to secure top 20 percentile marks in their respective boards for 12th examination. IIM L uses the following comprehensive evaluation parameters for calling students for WAT/PI round.
A maximum of 100 Marks were awarded to students shortlisted based on above table. A merit list was drawn and students were called in descending order. Let us understand each parameter in-depth as under (for PGP):
A maximum of 60 marks were awarded under this. Last year a weightage of 76% was given to CAT which got reduced to 60% at stage-II. Students score was divided with the highest score obtained by topper in CAT-2016 and multiplied with 60 to get the final marks.
A maximum of 10 marks were awarded to candidates who were in 98 percentile and above of the respective board examinations. Candidates in 96~98 percentile were awarded marks of 9, 94~96 were awarded 8, 92~94 were awarded 7 and so on so forth with anything lower than 80 percentile were awarded zero.
Graduation Marks were given a weightage of 10 marks and normalization process applied while calculating the scores from respective academic categories. Total marks awarded to academics (both 12th and graduation marks) at Stage-II had increased from 10% to 20% but well within the comfortable range. So, candidates with low past academics can always target IIM Lucknow.
A maximum of 10 marks were awarded based on the formula: (No.of Months-6)*0.5.
Minimum number of months for calculation purpose was taken as 6 months. From the above formula, it is evident that someone with more than 26 months experience will be getting a maximum of 10 marks.
Diversity Factor – Academic Background and Gender
Students with Arts/Commerce/Professional Course/Medicine and other non-Engineering subjects were given extra marks of 5 and girls get extra 5 marks.
